Breastfeeding during the lying-in period
The maternity nurse can help you 24-hours per day to put your baby to the breast. If there are problems, the lactation specialist is always there to help you. For tips on breastfeeding, please go to this page.
Rest
Rest is important after the delivery. Sometimes, however, the baby has other ideas! In the Birthing Clinic you don’t have to worry about handing your baby to the maternity nurse. She will care for the baby so that you and your partner can get some rest. The maternity nurse will wake you when the baby wants to nurse and, if necessary, she can then take the baby again.
The duration of your stay
The duration of your stay with us at the Birthing Clinic depends upon the kind of health insurance policy you have. Legally, everyone is entitled to 49 hours of maternity care, but if there are medical grounds, more hours can be added: for example, for the relocated home birth (with some insurance companies), a cesarean section, breastfeeding problems, multiple births or if you are not yet able to care for yourself, etc. But even if there are none of these specific circumstances and you still want to stay longer, that is always possible. There is even the possibility to stay in the Birthing Clinic after the normal lying-in period. It is, however, certainly advisable to first carefully read the policy conditions of your health insurance. You can find more information concerning costs and insurance at this page.
