Pediatric department of the MCH
Sometimes, after the delivery, your newborn baby must be admitted to the pediatric ward of the hospital. It is then possible to stay (temporarily) in the Birthing Clinic until your baby can go home or until the maximum number of maternity care hours have been reached. This saves you from having to travel back and forth to the hospital.
There is a good cooperative relationship between the pediatric department of the MCH and the Birthing Clinic, such that there is continuous monitoring to make sure that the care for you and your baby is going well. If necessary — and in consultation — changes can be made.
Breastfeeding when staying in the hospital.
The babies in the pediatric ward are those who need more care. It is, therefore, not always possible to have your baby nurse at the breast. We therefore advise you to start (preferably immediately) expressing your breast milk with a breast pump. For a sick baby, breast milk is even more important. We advise you to drain the breasts at least 7 times per 24 hours. If you have other questions, the maternity nurse is more than willing to support and advise you.
